Hospitals are the largest and most complex of all medical facilities. As a result, they require the most diverse range of medical supplies. Hospital medical supplies can range from basic diagnostic kits available in most medical offices or clinics to sophisticated instrumentation located in no other facilities in the world.

Many hospitals offer primary care for patients seeking wellness exams or other preventative care. These sections of the hospital may resemble small medical offices or clinics and contain similar basic supplies, such as general examination equipment, exam tables, examination gowns for patients and masks and gloves for medical personnel.

On the other hand, a hospital may also feature a cardiovascular unit requiring specialized equipment for monitoring and treating cardiac patients. An electrocardiogram is a technique by which cardiac function can be assessed. It requires both the use of sophisticated instrumentation and specially trained hospital staff, as well as accompanying accessory supplies required for operating the machine and documenting results.

A hospital may also contain a laboratory for the purpose of analyzing various patient samples. These laboratories utilize many types of kits ranging from basic blood typing kits to kits for paneling different types of bacterial or viral infections. Laboratory supplies may include centrifuges for processing blood samples or Petri dishes and different types of antibiotic agar for assessing bacterial growth. Temperature-controlled incubators are also a requirement in measuring growth of infective agents.

Because patients frequently must remain in hospital care for a long period of time, many hospital supplies used for basic day-to-day care are similar to those one might find in hotels. These include sheets, blankets and pillows, kitchen supplies, carts and trays used to provide patient meals, and certain bathroom accessories.
