Medical Training Supplies
Many medical supplies are designed for the training of medical personnel and even the lay person in certain medical procedures. Among the most commonly used medical training supplies are manikins. A manikin is a mannequin specific for medical training in that it has one or more anatomically correct or simulated components that can be used to teach medical procedures.
For example, CPR manikins contain appropriately located nose and mouth holes and an inflatable “lung” compartment. These simulated humans can be invaluable in teaching trainees how to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions in a “real-life” setting. In learning by doing, the trainee is given physical practice for techniques that can be life-saving. These types of training are essential to reduce a panic response; having been trained on a simulated human, the trainee is more likely to respond appropriately in a true emergency with a legitimate patient.
To this end, manikins are available for practicing a number of medical techniques and in various sizes to simulate adults, children, and even infants. These variations are important, for example, in teaching the proper administration of chest compressions. One would not want to use the same force giving chest compressions to an infant as to a grown man. By practicing different variations of techniques on different manikins, the trainee is again more likely to be able to distinguish and react appropriately in an emergency situation.
Manikins and other supplies used for medical training can be purchased in medical supply stores or online, along with a variety of other items used in the medical field and by patients.
